Methane is a powerful and harmful greenhouse gas, second only to CO2 as a contributor to human-caused climate change. Yet in many respects it’s the more dangerous greenhouse gas, trapping 84 times more heat per unit of mass than CO2 over a 20-year span.
Methane is all around us. It is a product of natural degradation, generated everywhere there is an organic waste stream to feed it, including oil and gas, agriculture and biomass sources. For example, there are a half million methane venting pneumatic valves controlling well feed pressures scattered across the United States. Each may be emitting a small amount of methane, but taken together they emit the equivalent of 45 million tons of CO2. Or about the same as 10 million cars.
There’s an emerging imperative for the circular economy, where little is wasted and as much as possible is reused or repurposed. Venting into the atmosphere – and wasting – millions of tons of methane is a case in point. It needs to be captured to mitigate its impact on the climate, and put to good use, such as a source for clean electricity.
Methane is as distributed as life itself. It requires collection and utilization at the source. Which is core to the Qnergy solution and a guiding principle in how we think about solving this problem.
Qnergy is a key part of solving the methane problem, helping convert a problem into a benefit for our customers. And for the communities they serve.
Qnergy’s solutions provides continuous remote electricity for your mission critical applications.
